The term ‘renal’ is used for treatments related to the kidney.

Renal dialysis is a treatment that helps your kidneys continue to function when they have stopped working properly. It removes waste, salt and extra water to prevent them from building up in the body, maintains a safe level of chemicals in your blood and helps to control blood pressure.

The renal dialysis unit at Northeast Health can treat up to 24 people and is serviced by specialist kidney doctors (nephrologists) who are based in either Albury/Wodonga or Melbourne.

Our renal dialysis unit is part of the Kidney Care Service at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

A young girl from the Wangaratta District Specialist School is looking comfortable and relaxed in a reclining chair with a fluffy blanket over her, to keep her warm while she is connected to the dialysis machine.
